Nief-Norf is a summer contemporary music festival in Knoxville, TN. This year’s Nief-Norf Summer Festival was the satisfying conclusion to my DMA-required internship. Throughout the year, I did grant research, assisted with social media activity, and helped plan the 2 week long festival.
I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to coach and play as well. I filled in one of the parts of Steve Reich’s drumming (1971) with legendary percussionist Russell Hartenberger coaching and teaching us the music by rote.
I also stayed with some amazing people/composers Jake Ellzey, Elijah Hall, and Gavin Tomasco. I was so inspired by their friendship and their work. + Coral Douglas tore the roof off the place with their piece SLUG!
